T1D

T1D, (tee-one-dee), is a collection that intentionally merges couture design with the needs of type one diabetics.  Upcoming technology like inflatable fabric (similar to a personal airbag) and thermochromic fabric are implemented to prevent injury and allow those around the user to know of a possible low blood sugar.  The color inspiration stems from gemstones like sapphire and amethyst as sapphire blue is the color for type one diabetes awareness.  The goal of this collection is to explore couture design while adapting to the daily tasks and technologies used by type one diabetics. From side seam snaps to neoprene garter belts for insulin pumps to clip onto, T1D is meant to empower the wearer and bring awareness to the public about how the condition does not define the individual.
